Resesarch Investigator
This Research Investigator position is to assist a senior investigator in running a research program in neuroprosthetics. This person will supervise ongoing animal experiments as well as experiments that are part of a related clinical trial. They will assist in mentoring PhD students to perform research. This person will also develop skills as an independent investigator over time by working with the PI on management tasks, grant writing, and student mentorship.
- Designing productive experiments for improving prosthetic control.
- Assuring continued progress on overall grant objectives, and assisting with grant related reports.
- Managing collaborative relationships to ensure that the overall project is progressing together and on schedule.
- Developing and maintaining machine learning software infrastructure for experiments, and coordinating software development across the team.
- Ensuring electrical safety of the experimental equipment and regulatory compliance of the experiments overall.
- Supervising and assisting graduate students and postdocs in generating hypotheses, performing experiments, analyzing data, and drafting papers.
- Assist in grant budget management tasks and grant writing for future projects.
- Attend and run meetings related to these projects.
- Share the administrative duties related to these research studies with the principal investigator.
PhD in Robotics or a related engineering discipline, BS in an engineering discipline.
- At least 3 first author papers in disciplines related to neuroprosthetics.
- Published first author work in using machine learning algorithms for real time neural signal processing.
- Proficient in a range of machine learning techniques, including neural networks, with particular experience in real-time debugging of algorithms during live experiments.
- Proficient in real time operating systems in general.
- Experience with nonhuman primates, running experiments that involved neural data processing in real time.
- Experience doing human prosthetic experiments with implantable electrodes as part of a clinical trial under an FDA investigational device exemption.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong willingness to meet with and call team members to ensure that communication is effective and tasks are being completed.
Strong interest in learning grant writing and developing the ability to directly mentor PhD students as the senior author of an original study.
