SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for a Residence Director. The Office of Residential Life and Learning Communities supports SUNY Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive, and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development, and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core. Resident Directors are a critical position with our department that supports our residential student population with educational programming, crisis responses, occupancy management and ensuring they are providing a safe, inclusive and engaged community experience for their residents. JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Residential Curriculum (50%)
- Administers and operates a community of residential learning.
- Develops and implements specific residential curriculum initiatives to build a comprehensive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth.
- Collaborates with living learning communities and with other Student Affairs departments such as the Educational Opportunities Program, Academic Success Center, Student Union Leadership & Activities, Health Promotion & Prevention Education services, and University Police.
- Completes academic interventions with residents of assigned residence halls to ensure residential students have access and knowledge of support services to assist in their academic success.
- Participates and hosts campus events.
- Serves on departmental and campus-wide committees.
Student Conduct and Incident Response (i.e., conduct meetings, duty) (30%)
- Participates in the student conduct process.
- Participates in an on-call duty rotation.
Occupancy Management and Supervision (20%)
- Manages housing for approximately 200 to 400 first year, transfer, or continuing students.
- Supervises resident assistants and other student support staff.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience with student learning and development
- Ability to work in a diverse college population and commitment to creating an inclusive environment
- Must be able to climb stairs, complete rounds, and physically respond to duty calls within residence halls across campus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on departmental initiatives including Living Learning Communities and Residential Education/Curriculum
- Experience designing and implementing student learning outcomes
- Experience with current technological initiatives such as Maxient, CBORD OdysseyHMS, Starfish, and CT Banner information system
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:
37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm or 9 am - 5 pm
