Scope of Job: The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for a one-year appointment as Lecturer I in Applied Music to join the UTRGV School of Music to start Fall 2025/Spring 2026 in Brownsville & Edinburg campuses. Primary responsibilities include teaching applied lessons, methods courses, directing the ensemble, music appreciation; and other duties assigned as needed by the School of Music Director. The position requires a demonstrated record of performance and a successful teaching record. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for continued scholarly/performance and recruitment activity. The successful candidate will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for the one-year appointment lecture position (maximum of 15 credit hours per semester or a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester).

There will be multiple positions available, each with teaching assignments that may include applied instruction on various instruments, collaborative piano, and lecture-based courses such as world music and music theory.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's in Music is required from an accredited university.

Additional Information: UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
