This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The Department of Art and Design, College of Art, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University

of Central Arkansas, seeks a Director/Assistant Professor for its Interior Design Program. This

position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The position is

tenure-track with a 10-month appointment.


Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe position as the Director of Interior Design will provide leadership to grow

the exceptional high-impact learning experiences, fulfilling the Department’s mission of

“preparing interior design students for lifelong learning, rewarding careers, and adaptive

leadership.” The Director will work closely with the Department Chair and the Interior Design faculty to develop a comprehensive strategic vision for the current curriculum as well as deepen the department’s community engagement, advance initiatives to engage and recruit students, and

work with professional architectural firms to establish a relationship that leads to professional

internship opportunities for our Interior Design majors.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe person selected for this position will also be expected to teach interior design courses,

manage the courses taught in the program with the approval of the Department Chair as well

serve as a strong advocate for the program. The position is designed to build upon a culture of

mentorship for our undergraduate students, and administrative work (e.g. for the Council of

Interior Design Accreditation – CIDA, and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design

– NASAD), and will require interprofessional collaboration to maintain and extend program

visibility. This position will require participation in university, department, and/or program area

meetings and committees. The successful candidate will be conversant in appropriate technologies for the field of interior design. In addition, the successful candidate will possess strong communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain a positive and collegial relationship with departmental colleagues, and university offices, and serve as a role model for students.Skills Considered Essential for Success-Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.

-Demonstrate effective follow-up.Required Education and/or ExperienceThe terminal degree is preferred, either a Ph.D., or an MFA in Interior Design, but those with

significant professional experience would be considered for the position in accordance with

accreditation policies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join an established and engaged faculty in Art & Design.
