Scientific Initiation Grant - 1 VACANCY

A call for tenders is open for 1 (one) R&D Scientific Initiation Grant within the scope of the project “R-TECH – Reservoir TECHnologies”, funded by the Institute for Research and Advanced Training, IIFA Exploratory Projects – 2026 (Order No. 07/IIFA/2026), under the following conditions:

Admission requirements: For this position, enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Informatics Engineering is required. Experience in web application development, Linux system management, and Docker container management will be valued.
According to the FCT Research Grant Regulations No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 5, BII (Research Initiation Grants) grants cannot be awarded to those who have already benefited from research grants directly or indirectly funded by the FCT, granted under the terms of the Research Grant Holder Statute.
Work plan: The overall goal of this project is to implement a digital platform that allows for the real-time collection, monitoring, and visualization of key meteorological parameters and water quality data from a low-cost sensor network. The following tasks are planned:
- Study on real-time data ingestion approaches, time series databases, technologies for developing web platforms, and the LoRaWAN technology used by sensors for data transfer;
- Installation and configuration of the development environment, including all dependencies necessary for the proper functioning of the system;
- Gathering requirements, designing and implementing the database for collecting real-time information from various sensors;
- Development of a digital platform for collecting, monitoring, visualizing, and accessing historical data;
- Participation in technical meetings; preparation of technical reports; production of technical and scientific materials for disseminating results; writing scientific articles.
Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Grant will be formalized through a contract between the University of Évora and the grant recipient, as per the template in Annex I, pursuant to the Research Grant Holder Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, as amended), and considering the provisions of other applicable legislation and regulations, namely, the Research Grant Regulations of the University of Évora (published by Order No. 8131/2024, of July 22, 2024), https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s/2024/07/140000000/0035300366.pdf, and in the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, as amended).
Workplace: The work will be developed at CREATE, University of Évora, under the general coordination of the University of Évora Administrator and the scientific guidance of Dr. André Albino and Professor Pedro Salgueiro who will be required to draw an opinion on the final activity report of the scholarship (Annex II), according to the draft in Annex III.
Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 3 months, with a planned start date in September 2026. The scholarship contract may be renewed until the end of the project's funding budget, always considering the maximum duration foreseen for each type of scholarship, according to the University of Évora's Research Scholarship Allocation Regulations in force, article 14.
Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The scholarship amount corresponds to €701.12, according to the table of values for scholarships awarded directly by FCT I.P. (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2026.pdf), in the country, with payments made monthly, via check or bank transfer.
Selection methods: The selection method to be used will be curriculum evaluation. In case of a tie, to select the top-ranked candidate, those with the same ranking will be submitted to a competency assessment interview.

Method of publishing/notifying the results: The final evaluation results will be published in a list ordered by final grade, posted in a visible and public location at the Computer Science Department, Colégio Luís Verney. Successful candidates will be notified by email. In accordance with the right to prior hearing of interested parties, the draft Final Classification will be announced in writing to all interested parties.
Following the announcement of the provisional list of evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, express their opinions in a prior hearing of interested parties. Based on the final ranking list, a reserve list will be created for the selection of new scholarship holders within the scope of this project, up to the limit of the scholarship duration. This reserve list may be used in the event of withdrawal by the candidate ranked first, failure to submit the required documentation, or if the scholarship holder cancels their scholarship early. If none of the candidates demonstrate that they possess the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship.
Application deadline and application submission method: The call is open from August 5th to August 18th, 2026, and the selection results will be published by August 24th, 2026.
Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, proof of enrollment in undergraduate studies, academic transcript, and other supporting documents deemed relevant.
For application purposes, supporting documents may be replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate, but failure to demonstrate, during the contracting phase, possession of the required degree by the application deadline, or failure to present proof of enrollment or registration in a study cycle or course not leading to a degree, for scholarships with this component, will result in the annulment of the candidate's evaluation.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries must be registered by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019 of January 25. Presentation of the certificate is mandatory for signing the scholarship contract.
