"Scientist I"

The scientist will work independently and as part of a team in the Engine Research Center laboratories within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UW-Madison. This position will perform data acquisition and analysis of engine test cell data in support of externally sponsored research programs and will assist in reporting and publishing results, and in writing of proposals. The scientist will also help to identify research problems and approaches and will serve as a subject matter expert in advanced combustion and related equipment technologies. The person will also help to supervise the design, construction, and maintenance of research and shop equipment and to manage safety documentation and training for research labs. The person will also help to supervise and advise post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate researchers.

• Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
• Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
• Supervises and assists in the design, construction, and maintenance of research equipment and laboratories along with managing safety documentation and training for research labs
• Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
• Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
• Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
• Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
