The Construction Management (CM) program in the Department of Construction and Concrete Industry Management (CCIM) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, benefit-eligible Beavers Charitable Trust (BCT) Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Practice (open-rank), non-tenure-track position in Construction Management, beginning August 2026.
Located in Brookings, South Dakota, this position, supported by the Beavers Charitable Trust, offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of heavy construction education, collaborate with industry professionals, and mentor the next generation of construction leaders.
The Department of Construction and Concrete Industry Management is one of five departments in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, serving 1500 undergraduate and graduate students. The 13-faculty-member CCIM Department serves 350 students in its undergraduate programs, which include Construction Management, Concrete Industry Management, and Electronics Engineering Technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Leadership and active involvement in student recruitment with an emphasis on heavy construction, exceptional education through classroom instruction and mentorship of student experiences and enhance the depth of the expertise on faculty through support and guidance to faculty engaged in related areas of study.
- Teach undergraduate courses on construction materials, construction management, surveying, heavy construction, infrastructure management, project scheduling, cost estimating, etc.
- Develop new courses and update the curriculum to reflect industry advancements and emerging technologies in the heavy construction sector.
- Actively engage with stakeholders in the heavy construction industry to further enhance the curriculum and expand practical learning opportunities for students.
- Strengthen industry partnerships to enrich the curriculum and create meaningful hands-on learning experiences that connect students with real world applications and potential career opportunities through internships, co-op programs and full-time employment.
- Mentor undergraduate students and support student competitions.
- Contribute to student recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts to strengthen program enrollment and industry engagement.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, supporting SDSU’s mission and the CM program’s strategic goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a construction-related field, by the start date of the position.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy construction projects with US Standards.
- The ability to teach undergraduate-level courses at a four-year, degree-granting institution.
- The capacity to provide leadership for institutional innovation and hold regional, national and/or international reputation in heavy construction.
- The capacity to develop strong collaborative partnerships with other institutions of higher education, government agencies, industry and nonprofit organizations.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, with a willingness to travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree in construction, engineering, business administration or a closely related field by start date.
- Professional licensure or construction related certification
- Hands-on experience with heavy construction projects, such as highways, bridges, airports, rail, and other infrastructure.
- Experience teaching courses at the college level.
- Active membership in professional organizations such as AGC, ARTBA, ASCE, or The Beavers
