Senior Administrative Manager, Tandon Payroll
Overview
Manage payroll operations for academic departments within NYU Tandon School of Engineering, ensuring consistent, accurate, and efficient payroll processing for all academic populations, including faculty, researchers, adjuncts, post-doctoral associates, research assistants, and student workers. Provide oversight of payroll planning, processing, and resolution of highly complex payroll matters across departments. Develop and implement strategic initiatives and standards for payroll customer-service excellence. Provide interpretation and implementation of University policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Design and oversee processes to track and maintain payroll transactions in Workday and related NYU systems. Act as the primary liaison between Tandon academic departments, Tandon Deans Office, Tandon HR, Tandon OSP, and NYU departments, including Wasserman, Student Employment, NYU Payroll, PeopleLink on payroll matters. Supervise a team of 2 payroll professionals.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related area
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, accounting, human resources, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Required Experience: 5+ years progressively responsible payroll and/or financial-management experience, including experience analyzing and planning budgets and financial systems. Must include experience interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures (preferably in a higher-education or other complex institutional setting) and supervision.
Preferred Experience: 5+ years experience in higher-education, including familiarity with faculty, researcher, adjunct, and student-worker payroll populations. Hands-on experience with Workday, UDW and Excel. Experience working with collective bargaining agreements. 3+ years of supervisory experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to develop, implement, and communicate policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of NYU systems (Workday, UDW+, PeopleSync). Ability to analyze and solve problems with innovative, creative solutions. Excellent presentation and written communication skills. Comfort partnering with senior leadership in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
