About the role:
The Ngunnawal Centre is our University of Canberra Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success and support centre. The Centre provides holistic, strengths-based support that begins with prospective students and continues through their academic journey and beyond.
We are seeking an engaging and experienced Senior Coordinator to join the Ngunnawal Centre team. This role is central to fostering engagement with Faculties, Community, and current, past and future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Playing a key role in coordinating inclusive, culturally safe support programs, the successful applicant will work towards enhancing student retention, success and completion.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the Ngunnawal Centre Manager in day-to-day operations and staff supervision.
- Coordinate recruitment, onboarding and timesheet management of casual staff including tutors.
- Help students navigating university systems.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver holistic and culturally appropriate support services.
- Lead initiatives that improve student engagement, access to resources, and academic success.
- Represent the Ngunnawal Centre at university and community events.
- Contribute to workshops, events, and information sessions tailored to Indigenous students.
- Support data collection, reporting and continuous improvement efforts.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues affecting Indigenous students.
- Customer service focus with strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and effectively.
- Experience in student support, program coordination, or community engagement. Higher education experience would be advantageous.
- Confidence in elevating student engagement and assisting the manager to run the centre.
- A commitment to social justice, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
