Senior Grants Officer

About the Role

Are you looking for a rewarding, interesting and challenging role supporting cancer research? Are you a highly motivated, numerate and organised individual with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity? Are you perhaps looking for a career change, with full training provided by a friendly and welcoming team?

The Department of Oncology is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Senior Grants Officer. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Team Leader (Grants) and take responsibility for managing research grants from initial costing through to final reporting for a portfolio of research groups. You will ensure that grants are administered in full compliance with funder terms and conditions.

You will work closely with senior academics, external funders, and internal teams, including Finance, HR, and wider administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. As part of your role, you will stay updated on University policies and procedures, maintain strong relationships with Research Services, Research Accounts, and other academic departments, and contribute to the smooth and efficient management of the department’s grant activities.

This is a full-time position offered on a fixed-term basis for 3 years in the first instance, at a minimum of 0.8 FTE.

The role is based at the Radiobiology Research Institute, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, OX3 7LE.

About You

We are looking for a very numerate, bright, organised individual, ideally with experience of working in a complex organisation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to explain policy and administrative information clearly and accurately, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of stakeholders. Your ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, coupled with a flexible and proactive problem-solving approach, will ensure your success in this demanding position.

Familiarity with Oracle Financials and the X5 costing tool, as well as an understanding of full economic costing principles and experience with student finance, would be advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided to the right candidate.
