Senior HR Officer

Senior HR Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic and busy HR team within the Department of Physics. Reporting to the Deputy Head of HR, you will be joining a team of seven HR professionals. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including assisting with managing the day-to-day operation of the generalist HR function: recruitment, onboarding, contracts, overseas engagements, the fixed-term contract process, immigration matters, leave management, employee relations, benefits, compliance, main, casual and overtime payroll. You will be key in providing specialist employment advice to managers, particularly in supporting employee cases in conjunction with the Deputy Head of HR and Head of HR. You will manage a HR Officer and be responsible for their development including performance reviews.

The post holder will be able to hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision. You will have robust knowledge of HR processes, recruitment, employee relations and the application of UK employment law and Home Office regulations for visas. You will be flexible and ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to communicate at all levels using discretion as required when dealing with confidential matters. Strong IT and written communication skills are also essential. The role will suit someone who is happy to deal with change and has the resilience and capacity to adapt.
