As the Senior Lecturer and Principal Specialty Supervisor in General Practice, you will play a pivotal leadership role in delivering high-quality, inclusive teaching to UQ medical students at the Bundaberg Regional Clinical Unit. This position offers the opportunity to foster a strong sense of belonging and support among students, empowering them to thrive in their clinical education. Key responsibilities will include:

Teaching: Lead the academic delivery of General Practice across all four years of the MD program, including teaching, assessment, curriculum enhancement, and mentoring of clinical educators to ensure high-quality, inclusive learning experiences.

Coordinate and optimise clinical placements and partnerships, working closely with local GPs, practices, and academic staff to secure quality learning environments and support student success through coaching, development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Research: Maintain personal academic excellence through active engagement in research and the scholarship of teaching and learning, while fostering a vibrant research culture within the Bundaberg RCU.

Build research capacity by initiating and supporting collaborative projects with UQ academics, health service clinicians, and external partners to enhance the unit’s research profile and impact.

Supervision and Researcher Development: Provide supervision to learners in area of expertise where feasible.

About You

Medical qualification and General Practice Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with AHPRA.

Expert knowledge and experience in a general practice clinical capacity, including evidence of knowledge of current education best practice

An established profile in clinical teaching in General Practice and a record of contribution to the supervision of medical students

Evidence of a contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.

Ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the RCU and RCS within healthcare settings at a university level and in the wider community including professional bodies

High level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues and the wider community

Highly developed organisational skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex working environment.

A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living and working in a rural and/or regional area
