Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Scientific/Technical Officer (Simulation Learning) to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Health.

The Senior Scientific/Technical Officer (Simulation Learning) provides technical expertise within a highly professional technical team in support of the Faculty’s academic endeavours. The role is responsible for the effective, safe and sustainable operation of a range of simulation facilities and specialist equipment. The role requires significant discipline specific knowledge to engage with and provide high quality technical support to academics and students within paramedicine and nursing simulation disciplines. The incumbent will maintain awareness of current and emerging support requirements and will contribute to the continual improvement of technical services supporting the Faculty’s Learning and Teaching and Research programs. The Senior Scientific/Technical Officer (Simulation Learning) will be required to work in collaboration with other technical staff to provide an integrated and highly responsive support service which ensures that students have the benefit of a high quality learning experience.

What you need to succeed

1.  Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor degree in related field with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training..

2.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the Health Science discipline, including but not limited to: Nursing and Paramedics.

3.  Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively connect and collaborate with colleagues and work in teams.

4.  Demonstrated ability to embrace and participate in change and to effectively organise and prioritise work in order to meet deadlines and competing priorities, without compromising quality in a technical environment.

5.  Well-developed problem solving skills including the ability to contribute to continuous improvement, and apply specialist knowledge and skills in the identification and resolution of work issues.

6.  Demonstrated understanding of theoretical aspects and experience in the practical application of relevant scientific/technical techniques, as well as the use of the specialised laboratory equipment associated with these techniques, where relevant.

7.  Proven ability to accurately review and interpret instructions of a conceptual nature; to relate relevant knowledge to provide maintenance and repairs to equipment, and to produce technical reports, communications and documentation to a high standard.

8.  Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
