Job Description:

- Use your specialist technical skills to support Natural, Agricultural and Social Sciences.
- Full time (1.0FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis until 20/04/2028.
- Base salary range: $83,212– $92,231p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
College Services provides academic administration and technical support to UWA’s Schools, delivering high-performing, efficient services that underpin teaching, research and student experience.
Within this, Technical Services delivers discipline‑specific expertise across a broad portfolio including laboratory preparation, fieldwork support, equipment and instrument stewardship, research optimisation, workshop design/manufacture, and safety systems.
The team supports teaching and research across the Natural, Agricultural and Social Sciences, including areas such as animal biology, plant biology, archaeology, geography, and environmental materials analysis, both on campus and in the field.
About the opportunity
- Provide high-level technical support through the setup, preparation and maintenance of materials, equipment and instrumentation.
- Deliver training, demonstrations and specialist advice to staff and students.
- Contribute to safe, efficient and compliant laboratory, workshop and fieldwork operations.
About you
- A tertiary qualification in Animal Biology, Zoology or Evolutionary Biology, or a closely related field is required; with demonstrated experience in Small Mammal Trapping and Handling.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct humane euthanasia of vertebrates, invertebrates and pest species in accordance with ethics requirements, for the purposes of student teaching demonstration.
- Substantial hands‑on technical experience supporting teaching and/or research at a Tertiary Level.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, guide and support others.
Special requirements (selection criteria)
- Current “C” Class manual driver’s licence is required.
- Ability to meet the University requirements for Snorkelling assessment is required.
- Current “LR” Class (or greater), drivers’ licence would be advantageous.
- 4WD certification and experience would be advantageous.
- Experience with Animal Ethics Applications would be advantageous.
- Able to fit the physical requirements of the position.
- Some after-hours work may be required.
