Are you a skilled and passionate fine woodworker and craftsperson? Do you have experience of sharing knowledge and skills whilst maintaining safe and creative workshop facilities? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join as a Senior Technician in Woodwork at Birmingham City University's School of Arts, Technical team.

The role is focused on supporting students in the production of high-quality outcomes for a range of courses, such as Architecture, Interior architecture, Landscape architecture and Product and Furniture Design as well as managing the safe and efficient running of the woodwork facilities. There is a strong emphasis on skill delivery, so we are looking for someone with a broad range of woodworking skills and experience.

As a Senior Technician, the successful candidate will be comfortable working within a team as well as on their own initiative.

You will be training students, through 1:1 instruction and group demonstrations, maintaining equipment, and scheduling machine servicing, ordering materials and recording material use and stock levels, championing sustainable working methods and use of resources, managing appointment and demonstration bookings, creating and reviewing health and safety documentation and ensuring that the Health and Safety is maintained and put into practice at all times.

The candidate should be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject (or equivalent level combination of qualifications, skills and experience) and be able to demonstrate significant practical experience of woodwork at all scales and levels of production. Have strong communication skills with an ability to impart technical knowledge to individuals, groups of students, colleagues and external organisations. Have good IT skills including Microsoft Office programs, be CAD literate, familiar with Asset Management software and online communication tools.

It would be desirable if the candidate had CNC Router operation, Steam bending, Veneering, First Aid training, COSHH qualification and IOSH/NEBOSH qualification.
