Job Overview

The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation, is looking to bring on a Simulation Operations Specialist 2 onto the team. This role would be responsible for providing moderate technical and mechanical support as well as the operation of patient simulators. Using industry standards and established best practice, this position is responsible for the audiovisual equipment and inventory.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment direction for use (DFU) and other operations manuals.
  • Operate patient simulators and cameras for duration of simulations.
  • Operate and maintain audio-visual and debriefing systems.
  • Set up and take down simulation center equipment and standardized patient rooms.
  • Maintain and repair all simulation equipment including (but not limited to): patient simulators, computers, monitors, and a variety of medical equipment. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and contact vendors of medical equipment for assistance.
  • Communicate effectively with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes.
  • Collaborate with Senior Simulation Operations Specialist to organize, maintain and restock simulation centers’ supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, administrative staff, and other simulation lab staff.
  • Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts (SME) to design and execute complex and realistic immersive simulation scenarios.
  • Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia equipment. Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors, and staff in use of simulation equipment.
  • Provide theatrical production support (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.
  • Provide recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Collect data for ongoing research and/or grant requirements.
  • Maintain simulation activities and learner confidentiality.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telehealth, Interprofessional Education, Collaborative Care, or related field. Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within two (2) years of hire date.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of relevant work experience. Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field. Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Availability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Two (2) years of experience providing technical support in Network Operations and computer hardware/software. Experience in healthcare field such as RN, LPN, paramedic, EMT, medic, emergency tech, and/or Medical Assistant. Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, Smart boards, media players, etc. Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation centers. A valid unencumbered Ohio license as a Registered Nurse is required should the hired employee be a nurse.
