Simulation Operations Specialist 3, COM, Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma & Critical Care

The Department of Surgery is looking to bring on a Simulation Operations Specialist 3 onto the team. This role would be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and oversight of all simulation activities. This position involves advanced technical expertise, leadership in simulation program management, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. In collaboration with faculty subject matter experts, lead the development of innovative simulation strategies, ensuring the highest level of realism, efficiency, and effectiveness in training scenarios.
Essential Functions
- Maintain proficiency with a specialized range of AV/Simulation technologies and systems including relevant clinical equipment.
- Serve as an internal consultant for support, planning and design of AV services.
- Monitor industry trends to make recommendations for professional development opportunities and upgrades in systems technologies.
- Maintain knowledge of and compliance with institution and industry policies, standards, and regulations.
- Maintain an understanding of education principles, regulations, and standards/best practices.
- Support all simulation center users in the safe and appropriate use of specialized equipment and resources within the center.
- Serve as internal consultant for integration of the simulation environment and technologies into the education program.
- Assist with examinations, assessments, and testing.
- Safeguard privacy and security of simulation center data and technology assets.
- Develop and deliver training programs for Simulation Operations staff and provide leadership to the Simulation Operations team.
- Manage or assist with planning, coordinating, and executing all simulation activities and services in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with institution and industry policies, standards, and regulations.
- Manage or contribute to the simulation program operations and inventory in collaboration with the Director of Simulation.
- Collaborate with Research & Development teams to explore and pilot new simulation technologies.
- Collect, collate, and analyze facility and equipment utilization data and participant evaluation data.
- Support the preparation, application, implementation, and reporting of research grants.
- Support preparation of ethics/institutional review board (IRB) applications.
- Set up, program, operate, store, test, and calibrate simulators, task trainers, and other simulation equipment. Provide specialized technical support and troubleshooting. Ensure optimal functioning of simulation technology and systems via updates, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair. Serve as an internal consultant and external liaison on all simulation technology matters.
- Provide oversight of planning and implementation of simulation design to create immersive experiences.
- Provide direct or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring, firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telehealth, Interprofessional Education, Collaborative Care, or related field. Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist – Advanced (CHSOS – A) within two (2) years of hire.
Required Experience
Three (3) years of relevant work experience. Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field. Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Availability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. Continuing professional development activities commensurate to maintain CHSOS – A certification through the Society of Simulation in Healthcare.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Five (5) years of experience providing technical support in Network Operations and computer hardware/software. Experience in healthcare field such as RN, LPN, paramedic, EMT, medic, emergency tech, and/or Medical Assistant. Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) Certification. Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, Smart boards, media players, etc. Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation centers. A valid unencumbered Ohio license as a Registered Nurse is required should the hired employee be a nurse.
