This position is based in Tacoma, WA, and is hybrid eligible (minimum of 3 days on-site) after a successful evaluation period.

Position Summary:
The social media manager is an integral member of the Marketing & Communications editorial team, responsible for creating and executing content strategy across key social media channels and the website in support of brand strategy, university priorities, and fundraising objectives. The institutional lead for online community engagement, this position is the voice of Puget Sound in the social space and provides guidance and support for social media managers campuswide. This person will have a successful track record of effectively engaging with and cultivating diverse audiences across social platforms, driving brand awareness and engagement. Additionally, this position will have a strong social media design background, leading to visually impressive and consistent social content that aligns with other brand elements.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manage University of Puget Sound and the university president's social media accounts. Provide strategic support to athletics social media accounts.
- Conceptualize and produce dynamic content, shoot and edit video, write and edit all social copy, while maintaining brand look, feel, and tone. Partner with university photographer/videographer to produce digital story packages.
- Plan and execute paid and organic social media strategies across key channels in support of strategic initiatives.
- Supervise and motivate a team of student social content creators, potentially including paid student workers, influencers, or ambassadors. Connect with alumni for user-generated content that demonstrates successful outcomes in the Logger Community.
- Manage and maintain social content calendar and posting.
- Grow and moderate Puget Sound's social community, managing all responses to comments and queries in a timely and engaging manner.
- Identify and cultivate Puget Sound's fan base. Propose new, innovative social campaigns and initiatives to increase and deepen fan/follower engagement and affinity.
- Maintain KPI dashboards and reports to measure social campaign performance; analyze and report out on these metrics in monthly reviews, identifying underlying trends and actionable insights to continually improve.
- Train, inspire, and collaborate with other content creators across campus.
- Proactively develop best practices and standards to ensure the scalability of our social media strategy, including evaluating and integrating tools and resources to improve analytics.
- Support organizational issues management by actively monitoring social channels for potential threats, providing stakeholders with timely situational reports, and deploying approved messaging to address sensitive public inquiries.
- Create original digital assets and graphics that enhance social media posts, maintaining high production standards while adapting designs for various formats like stories, feeds, and reels. Partner with the Art Director to ensure brand alignment.
- Work effectively and efficiently with careful attention to budgets and time management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Reports to the director of editorial strategy. Will also supervise student worker(s) as needed.
Budget Responsibilities
Creates and works within budgets, which are managed by the AVP for Marketing & Communications.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be self-driven creative thinkers who can create original content and amplify its impact by shaping it for various audiences to drive engagement and build community. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of effectively engaging with and cultivating diverse audiences across social platforms, driving brand awareness and engagement. Strong, creative writing and editing skills are essential, plus:
- Two years of social media experience in a small business, corporate, or nonprofit environment; college or university experience preferred.
- Evidence of a social media design portfolio, especially with examples of working creatively within a clear visual brand.
- Demonstrated ability to drive brand engagement with multiple audiences.
- Strong storyteller with excellent written and visual communication skills.
- Self-starter with a creative mindset that seeks to understand audience needs and motivations.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt social media trends in a timely manner to serve an institutional audience while staying within brand guidelines.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
- Enthusiastic collaborator with the ability to build strong relationships with internal partners.
- Experience analyzing metrics to drive actionable next steps.
- A desire to flourish in a fast-paced environment with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
Compensation and Benefits:
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be hired between $25.45 to $27.30 per hour. The rate for an experienced employee in this role may go up to $32.40 per hour, and the starting salary will be based on experience level.
