Job Duties:

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is seeking a Software Developer (Software Engineer/Developer III, IT004).

The Software Developer position leads and participates in the design, development, layout, coding, maintenance, and support of websites and applications to meet the needs of functional users. Designs, develops, and deploys custom interactive web applications and integrates logically designed databases. The Software Developer works closely and collaboratively with other members of the Web Team and IT Services staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews application design specifications, codes new applications, and makes enhancements to existing applications
  • Designs and implements test plans, and prepares systems test data
  • Prepares program documentation and training requirements
  • Develops, prepares, or modifies technical specifications for complex projects, system integrations, and upgrades
  • Conducts systems analysis, reviews and interprets system requirements, and develops detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades
  • Reviews application modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application architecture standards
  • Conducts analysis for the evaluation and selection of vendor software solutions and packages
  • Leads sub-functional team for application development or enhancement
  • Contributes to the development of data structure and systems performance strategies
  • Trains and provides technical guidance to lower level staff
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, consultant, and main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding website and application options, design, maintenance, and support
  • Some evening, weekend and on-call responsibilities may be required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy CIO and CIO

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews application modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application architecture standards
  • Conducts analysis for the evaluation and selection of vendor software solutions and packages
  • Leads sub-functional team for application development or enhancement

Department: Information Technology Services

Compensation: Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting annual salary within a range of $69,000-$75,000. UW System employees receive an excellent benefit package. To learn more about the UW System's comprehensive benefit package, review the UW System Employee Benefits Brochure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative, supportive team member
  • Experience programming with object-oriented techniques using C#/ASP.NET Core and MVC for web application development
  • Experience in using Razor, HTML, JavaScript, Bootstrap and CSS to develop websites based on provided graphical designs
  • Experience implementing responsive CSS and table-less HTML to create web pages and templates from graphic designs
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Experience using current versions of Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code
  • Knowledge of web development design concepts
  • Knowledge of browser behaviors including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and other emerging web browsers for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL Server or other relational databases
  • Experience securing Web applications
  • Experience with implementing Web Accessibility standards
  • Experience documenting user requirements with use case diagrams
  • Experience implementing all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related/similar field
  • Knowledge of large, complex Financials, Human Resources or Student Information administrative systems
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience working in Ingeniux

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
