Job Summary
The Accommodations Specialist provides support to the Nursing Program Director by assisting with multiple aspects of academic accommodations, including tracking types and numbers by cohort, managing communications, arranging for implementation, assessing use and outcomes, and generating reports for QI purposes. The purpose of this role is to maintain compliance and quality of accommodation implementation. This role also ensures equal access to educational opportunities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and institutional policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Tracking support:
- Provide the Director with timely and accurate notice of accommodations that are active for each cohort.
Communication support:
- Serve as communication liaison between Student Affairs, Accessibility & Disability Services staff, students, instructors, and the Director. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and academic content. Communicate effectively with all parties.
Implementation support:
- Arrange for the implementation of accommodations in multiple settings, including testing and classroom activities, with attention to timeliness and precision. Adhere to institutional policies and procedures related to academic integrity and ADA compliance.
Assessment support:
- Follow-up on use and quality of accommodation implementation, generate compilations of aggregated and de-identified data for quality improvement.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework preferred.
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
- Excellent writing and typing abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Dependable, patient, and detail-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies or accommodations in academic settings.
- Knowledge of ADA regulations and inclusive practices.
- Flexible hours based on student needs and exam schedules.
