Staff Associate II

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified Staff Associate with expertise in data science and bioinformatics to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an expert in programming languages such as C, Python, and R, with significant knowledge of single-cell RNAseq analysis. Expertise in agentic AI and digital pathology is required. This role will focus on developing and applying computational methods to analyze complex biological data, contributing directly to the lab's research goals, including developing full pipelines and incorporating advanced image analysis approaches.

Job Function

  • Perform all analytical steps for RNAseq, single nucleus RNAseq, and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Maintain lab’s website and data storage.
  • Develop new methods for analyzing spatial transcriptomics and long-read sequencing data.
  • Deploy agentic AI in image analysis and in transcriptomic analysis.
  • Oversee progress on ongoing research projects and perform image analysis as needed.
  • Contribute to writing papers and progress reports, and present findings at scientific conferences.
  • Train junior personnel in coding and data analysis techniques.
  • Adapt automations to wet-lab approaches and contribute to wet-lab experiments as needed
  • Supervise the training of new students in bioinformatics and data anlaysis

Lab Mission/Purpose

The Al-Dalahmah laboratory's mission is to define the states of glial pathology in neurologic diseases like neurodegeneration and glioblastoma. We use this knowledge to develop novel therapeutic strategies to block disease progression.

Minimum Education Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in a specific research field such as computer science or bioinformatics is required. Four years of related experience is recommended.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degrees in bioinformatics and mathematics. A background in mathematics and/or biology is preferred. Previous experience aligning Fastq files, performing single nucleus and spatial RNAseq analysis, and expertise in spatial transcriptomics and cancer biology are also preferred.

Hiring Salary Range

Staff Associate II: $64,800 - $73,000
