Student Account Assistant

We are looking for a Student Account Assistant to join our Student Financial Services team in Financial Operations. The Student Financial Services area invoices, collects payment from, and provides customer service for the more than 53,000 students enrolled at the University's Ann Arbor campus. You will serve an important role as the initial contact for student financial account inquiries.
- Answer inquiries and requests received by phone and email from students, parents, or University departments concerning student account activity.
- Review student accounts for accuracy and initiate corrections.
- Interpret and explain U-M procedures relating to student accounts and refer to appropriate office.
- Work directly with financial aid staff to assist students.
- Review current term list for Graduate Student Assistant Tuition Waivers and process corrections.
- Review accounts to collect and update online collection list to create system-generated dunning notices.
- Review monthly past-due participant payment plans and cancel delinquent plans. Answer questions and advise students or parents on payment plan budgets and policies.
- Research and process approved student account refunds.
- Review and respond to requests for late payment fee reversals and process late payment fee if appropriate.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Completion of high school education, with college degree preferred.
- 2 or more years' clerical experience in a business office or University setting.
- Experience with high-quality customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment and work independently in a team setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with varied deadlines.
- Ability to correspond appropriately with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to handle difficult conversations.
- Working knowledge of PCs and desktop software and Google.
This is a full-time position, and you will report to the General Account Senior Manager in Student Financial Services. As part of the University of Michigan Finance Division's Future of Work initiative, work will be remote. You may, on occasion, work onsite as Supervisor or job requirements request, including the initial training period during which they require it. The home-work environment is free of distractions to ensure focus. You will have access to confidential information; therefore, the workspace should provide adequate privacy to protect sensitive information.
