Classification: ANU Officer 6/7 (Administration)

Salary package: $67.36 - $77.53 per hour plus 12.5% superannuation

The Position

The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) is seeking a Student Development officer. This position sits within the Indigenous Health Team based on the ANU Acton campus and liaises with a number of stakeholders to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health through curriculum content, recruitment and retention of students.

The Student Development Officer provides administrative and program support within SMP’s Indigenous Health Unit at ANU. Reporting to the School Manager and working closely with the Chair of Indigenous Health, the role supports coordination of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program and Indigenous Health Stream. Responsibilities include organising workshops and forums, supporting student recruitment, engagement and mentoring, and coordinating cultural training for placements. The position prepares reports and briefings, analyses data, liaises across the University, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with University policies and governance requirements.

The Person

Demonstrated connections with local Aboriginal community and a contemporary understanding of issues affecting Aborirginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples within Australia society are essential.

We are looking for a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with staff and students. Developed organisational skills and high level customer service are key.

The School/Department

The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) was established in 2023 to bring together expertise from Medicine and Psychology to develop a unique educational and research environment. The focus is to produce psychologists, researchers, and medical graduates who practice compassion, conscience and professional excellence, and with a knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and culture. The school partners with a number of healthcare organisations to deliver teaching and training including but not limited to ACT Health, community practices throughout the ACT and Southeastern NSW.

The College/Division

The ANU College of Science and Medicine encompasses the following disciplines: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Physics, Medicine and Psychology, and Medical Research. It is also home to various cross-disciplinary and specialist institutes and centres. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science and Medicine conduct research and deliver research-led education programs spanning the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and world-class facilities.
