Student Support Specialist - Smart Scholars Program
This position is located on the campus of the State University of New York at Old Westbury. Employment, payroll and benefits are through and subject to the Research Foundation for SUNY policies and procedures. The Research Foundation for SUNY is a private educational corporation. This is a part-time grant funded position.
The Smart Scholars Program (SSP) at SUNY Old Westbury supports high school students from Roosevelt High School and is designed to provide underrepresented students with the unique opportunity to take credit bearing college courses from SUNY Old Westbury at no cost. In addition, special programs are offered to expose students to a variety of college campuses and local industries, businesses, and labs to further pique their interest and motivation for higher education.
The Smart Scholars Student Support Specialist will report to the Director of Early College High School Programs, who manages the grant-funded program and high school partnerships designed to support the University's mission to promote access and support academic excellence. Collectively, these programs serve over 500 students from local partner school districts. SUNY Old Westbury has a long-standing history of dedicated service toward the mission of providing at-risk students with the opportunity for access to college through comprehensive transition and support program services.
Primary responsibilities include:
The part time Student Support Specialist will assist the Director with the day to day functions of the Smart Scholars Program which may include:
- review of student applications,
- assist with the analysis and reporting of data,
- coordinate and/or conduct age-appropriate academic support workshops and activities,
- participate in program promotional events and work to recruit and retain students, on campus and on-site at partner school districts, and
- perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
This position is part-time hourly grant funded. Hourly Rate: $25.00/hr. The selected candidate will work a flexible schedule, up to 15 hours per week, including night and weekends in support of special projects and events.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social services, education, or related field.
- The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and must have a commitment to student academic success.
- Must have and maintain the appropriate valid NYS driver's license and have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
