Studio BIT Engineer and Building Coordinator

Position Highlights

As a member of the AZPM Technology team, the Studio BIT Engineer and Building Coordinator, will be collaboratively responsible for engineering, design, installation, configuration, documentation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for systems used in On-Air Origination in radio and television, broadcast systems, and all interconnecting data Networks. As building coordinator this position ensures that studios, meeting rooms, and public spaces remain functional, safe, and welcoming. This includes coordinating furniture needs, overseeing technology in collaboration with production services, monitoring consumable supplies, and supporting special event setups. Oversee building maintenance by submitting and tracking facilities service requests with the university.

They will have the ability to work a flexible schedule within core workday as the expectation is to provide support on an on-call basis supporting a 24x7 operation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports high availability of commonly used IP, SD/HD/UHD SDI digital video and digital audio systems.
  • Performs monitoring & control system support and basic troubleshooting to maintain on-air services.
  • Provides routine support and resolutions to production applications such as the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Assists with managing multi-channel automation systems, radio and television playback servers, supports file-based workflows, and performs troubleshooting with guidance when needed.
  • Assists in maintaining production systems including virtual set.
  • Assists as a point of contact for Facilities Management and contractors working in the AZPM facility.
  • Works with AZPM production department on setting up for events and productions as needed.
  • Assists with building maintenance by submitting facilities service requests with the university.
  • Monitors building HVAC and Lighting systems using building control software.
  • Assists with surplus and disposal of outdated furniture and equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs to furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assists Chief Engineer with routine troubleshooting of broadcast IP Networks and Ethernet connectivity, including TCP/IP & ST2110 and AES67 multicast.
  • Assists other technical services IT and broadcast engineering staff as needed for projects or outages in studio and at transmitter sites.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and online resources.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrable troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in establishing priorities with multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to use broadcast scopes to evaluate and interpret video and audio quality.
  • Ability to use control systems such as switchers and patch panels to connect sources to destinations.
  • Ability to install and configure broadcast and video/audio equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate custom video/audio and Ethernet copper cable assemblies.
  • Ability to perform routine, regular systems checks to document any anomalies.
  • Working knowledge of video and audio encoding compression standards.
  • Working knowledge of MPEG-4 encoders, MPEG Transport Stream analyzers and satellite transmission equipment.
  • Working knowledge of asset management systems and automated workflows.
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with Ethernet packet analysis high bandwidth fabrics and multicast network designs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, move, transport up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Must be able to work at any time in a 24 X 7 broadcast environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a hands-on IT engineer in a broadcast ST-2110 and/or post-production environment.
  • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting Network Storage systems, switches and routers.
  • Experience with building, setup, and configuration of Windows, Mac, and Linux servers and/or workstations.
  • Experience with Protrack, RCS, Crispin, or other radio/television traffic and automation systems.

Compensation

Rate of Pay: $28.56 - $35.70 hourly rate
