Survey Specialist Associate
The Survey Research Center (SRC) Health and Retirement Study (HRS) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) is looking for a bilingual survey instrument tester. The HRS is a longitudinal national survey of more than 20,000 people and focuses on the health and economics of aging and retirement.
Reporting to the Instrument Testing Coordinator, you will conduct survey instrument testing, and translation in both English and Spanish languages. You will work in a team environment that allows for both independent and collaborative work.
If you join our team, you will:
- Conduct systematic Computer Assisted Interview (CAI) survey instrument testing
- Identify and document program errors and changes in the instrument
- Provide translation, proofing, and editing of questionnaires, respondent newsletters, letters, brochures, and consent forms
- Translate interviewer and respondent comments from Spanish to English
- Maintain comprehensive testing protocols and support materials
- Prepare questionnaire documentation for internal review board submission, project staff use, and distribution to the research community
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences or related field with experience in survey research, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Fluency in English and Spanish languages, including highly developed language comprehension ability in both languages
- Prior translation experience that includes attention to cultural nuances and adapting content for target audiences
- One or more years of progressively responsible experience in survey research or related area
- Proficiency using standard office and relational database software
- Experience completing assignments on deadline
- Experience composing basic instructions, memos, documents, and manuals
