GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Tableau Developer (Associate Director) plays a critical cross-divisional role in advancing institutional analytics with a strong focus on student retention and persistence. This position is responsible for independently designing, developing, and maintaining interactive dashboards and visual analytics that inform strategic decisions across Academic Affairs, Student Success, Enrollment Management, and other administrative areas with emphasis on work tied to SUCCESS-funded initiatives. The role requires significant professional expertise and autonomy in transforming complex institutional data into accessible, actionable insights, with particular emphasis on metrics tied to state-funded SUCCESS initiatives.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as Tableau Site Administrator: create, prioritize, and oversee project organization; review and certify content; manage user roles and permissions.
- Lead the design and deployment of high-impact Tableau dashboards that support university-wide initiatives, with particular emphasis on student retention, progression, and engagement metrics linked to SUCCESS funding priorities.
- Collaborate closely with leadership and staff across the Division of Student Success, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, ITS, and other units to identify data needs and create tailored dashboards that support institutional and student success goals.
- Gather, clean, and prepare data for analytics and visualization; ensure data sources are valid, reliable, and aligned with institutional definitions and data governance standards.
- Exercise a high degree of autonomy in developing data models, analytical methods, and visual design frameworks to translate complex data into informative, user-friendly dashboards.
- Ensure Tableau integration with multiple data sources, manage data refresh schedules, and support centralized access and single sign-on (SSO) configuration.
- Lead efforts to ensure dashboards and data products meet accessibility standards and comply with FERPA and other data privacy regulations.
- Support data storytelling and dashboard training for institutional stakeholders; guide functional areas in interpreting and applying data insights for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the development of data-informed practices that guide the planning, assessment, and evaluation of student-facing programs, especially those tied to SUCCESS funding and other strategic initiatives.
- Stay current on developments in higher education analytics and visualization tools; apply industry best practices in dashboard design, data interpretation, and user engagement.
- Develop and maintain documentation for data sources, reporting processes, and user access protocols.
- Represent Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research on various cross-functional committees and working groups.
- Provide ad hoc analytical and consultative support across university divisions.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Proven experience with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server, with a strong portfolio of interactive dashboards.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment in managing complex analytics projects.
- Proficiency in data modeling and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
- Experience working with data sources such as SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, Excel, or similar.
- Strong communication and data storytelling skills with the ability to present to non-technical audiences.
- Commitment to supporting student success in a diverse, inclusive university environment.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and capacity to manage multiple priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in a higher education setting, particularly within institutional research or student success initiatives.
- Familiarity with higher education data structures (e.g., enrollment, course registration, financial aid, retention, and graduation metrics).
- Tableau Certification (e.g., Tableau Desktop Specialist or Certified Professional).
- Experience with additional tools such as Power BI, R, Python, or data lakehouse platforms.
- Knowledge of data governance, data privacy, and FERPA compliance practices.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Associate Director. The anticipated starting salary is $90,000. This position is partially funded through MA SUCCESS funding. Ongoing employment is contingent upon continued funding.
