Religious Education IT Administrator
Job Summary:
Religious Education's IT Administrator will provide comprehensive technology support to facilitate the teaching, research, and learning within Religious Education. You will analyze, design and coordinate major information system needs and solutions for Religious Education. You will oversee the operations of the IT Support Desk and help maintain websites and back-end server technologies to keep Religious Education up and running. To accomplish this, we expect you to exemplify exceptional leadership, management, organizational, and technical skills. Computer Hardware & Software
- Provide comprehensive technological support to faculty and staff in Religious Education.
- Make decisions on technology implementation, support desk operations, and hardware/software purchases.
- Research, review and recommend IT solutions.
- Troubleshoot technical problems (or supervise the troubleshooting of technical problems by student employees). This includes taking charge of escalated issues from frustrated customers and resolving them.
- Setup, install, and configure new equipment, maintain inventory records, keep current with new technologies through online research and conference attendance.
- Maintain and troubleshoot network devices, network access, and communication tools.
- Coordinate software purchases and contracts, install, configure, troubleshoot and upgrade software.
Web & Server Management
- Actively manage Religious Education's websites and applications.
- Oversee content management systems with various rights and privileges to allow website content to be created, updated, and modified.
- Create, develop, & maintain social media initiatives and marketing.
- Configure and maintain virtual servers for hosting Religious Education websites and web applications.
- Administer systems for managing computers and deploying software.
Data Management & Security
- Maintain database of equipment, software, users, tasks, and knowledge base.
- Oversee and recommend data backup and storage procedures.
- Manage users accounts, access to websites, server accounts, shared mailboxes, applications, workstations, and shared file services.
- Oversee security maintenance regarding malware, viruses, phishing, and hackers including software patching and user training.
- Investigate and rectify security breaches.
Student Employee Management, User Training & Development
- Hire, train, manage and mentor a team of student employees.
- Coordinate work on projects and other tasks.
- Provide hardware/software training as needed (in person, recorded, or written), answer users questions and show them how to perform certain tasks, help users understand and be successful with technology.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars on behalf of Religious Education. Interface with the University's Office of Information Technology
Education & Experience:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU & Religious Education.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, IT, or a closely related technical discipline and at least two years of computer troubleshooting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
- 3 years of experience in systems administration or web development.
Skills, abilities, and knowledge:

- Ability to identify needs and create documented processes. Follow through with the implementation of those processes.
- Ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot all core elements of computing including desktop and mobile hardware and operating systems software (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, Hypervisors).
- Experience using the following technologies: Microsoft MEM, Jam Pro, or other endpoint management system, VMware VSphere, Microsoft Active Directory or another directory services.
- Knowledge of and experience with productivity, email, and collaboration tools. These include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Suite, internet browsers.
- Understanding of online storage and backup systems, Actifio, CrashPlan, Synology, Box.
- Understanding of communication technology, such as IP telephony, cell phones, smartphones, videoconferencing, and emerging trends.
- Ability to work with despondent customers, helping to resolve issues and concerns, and being their advocate.
- Configure and troubleshoot wired and wireless computer networking: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, network printing.
- Supervise and direct a team of technology support employees, incoming requests for technology support, technology assets (hardware, software, and access), ongoing technology deployment projects, database of equipment, software, and users.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies, regard for the security of confidential material, project management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven organizational skills with an emphasis on follow-through and attention to detail as well as a proactive attitude are highly desired.
