Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The faculty of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2025.

Required Education and Experience

Candidates must have either a Ph.D. in criminology/criminal justice, or an earned doctorate in a closely related social science discipline, completed by the start of employment (ABDs considered but a degree is expected when contract begins). A law degree (JD, LLM, SJD) does not satisfy the minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

We are seeking candidates whose research addresses victimization, but particularly encourage applicants with specializations in youth victimization, hate crimes, mass violence victimization, child or elder abuse, community violence victimization, bullying and cyber victimization, and victimization and the criminal justice system. Applicants must demonstrate clear promise of important and high-impact scholarly research, effective teaching, and meaningful community engagement. Candidates with demonstrated potential for external research funding are especially encouraged to apply.
