Description
As a member of the communications team, you will develop strategy and write copy for compelling and consistent content across multiple digital platforms, primarily on the ISU Foundation’s website and social media.
Based on qualifications and experience, a selected candidate may hold one of these job titles: Assistant Director of Communications or Associate Director of Communications.
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead content strategy to achieve specific goals and serve as lead writer/editor for the Iowa State University Foundation website.
- Contribute to concepting and copywriting for social media strategy and content.
- Maintain relationships with campus connections and seek out stories from the university.
- Contribute to concepting and copywriting for foundation marketing materials, including videos, radio advertisements, and more.
- Serve as an in-house expert in matters of grammar, usage, and style.
- Uphold brand standards and effectively influence others to do so.
- Ensure all deliverables align with the university’s fundraising priorities, message, and brand, and in collaboration with the project coordinator, are produced on deadline and within budget.
Qualifications
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, marketing, creative writing, or communications.
- 2+ years of professional experience related to employment area, preferably in digital content writing and strategy.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
- Familiarity with and understanding of how to utilize and apply data into a strategy.
- Sophisticated proofreading and editing skills, with knowledge of AP Style guidelines.
- Experience with web and digital communication tools, such as Sprout Social.
- Familiarity with Salesforce Experience Cloud and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Version 2.1
- Proficient in search engine optimization (SEO) and social media publishing.
- Adept at handling several activities simultaneously with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines and accuracy.
- Experience with AB testing of content.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manage workload independently.
- Ability to work in a team setting and navigate working with a variety of personalities.
- Occasional participation in weekend work-related activities is required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is required.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: Ames, IA; potentially hybrid
