The mission of the Shandas Collaboratory is to translate engineering ideas and inventions into clinical use. Dr. Shandas has mentored over 60 graduate students and more than 80% now hold research, teaching, or leadership positions in academia or industry. The Shandas lab works translationally with clinicians and researchers from across the Anschutz Medical Campus, and integrates with engineering professionals in industry as well. Current projects in the Collaboratory include development of low-resource biodesign methodologies (in collaboration with the Center for Global Health), design and translation of minimally invasive devices to capture and analyze upper gut content in cancer, rare diseases, allergy, nutrition, and metabolic health (in collaboration with Pediatrics, GI, the CU Cancer Center, and Nutrition), and design of novel devices to support autonomous, non-expert battlefield medicine (in collaboration with the Center for Combat Research).

Three postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated candidates to join our research team at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. We conduct cutting-edge translational research in biomedical devices, biomaterials, molecular diagnostics, and ultrasound imaging, with a strong focus on bringing new ideas to the clinic.  Among other notable achievements, our group has submitted over 80 patent applications, helped startup 8 biotechnology companies, and have developed new products in areas including medical imaging, gastrointestinal medicine, orthopedics, and cardiovascular medicine.  We are now pursuing projects focused on elucidating the upper gut microbiome and functional metabolomics using minimally invasive techniques, new designs to support autonomous battlefield medicine, and new ultrasound imaging techniques.

We are looking for individuals interested in developing skills in any of the following: computational datascience; microbiome analysis; medical device design; polymeric multifunctional biomaterials; and imaging.
