The Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois is searching for an outstanding candidate for a faculty teaching position.

We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach all levels of undergraduate students. The incumbent will teach and mentor undergraduate students in the Department's concentrations focused on food and agriculture, including food and agribusiness management, commodity markets, and agricultural finance.

Successful applicants will join the department's thriving community of creative, passionate, and innovative teaching faculty who contribute to high-quality instruction and content development and experiential learning opportunities for ACE students. Many teaching faculty also engage in outreach, service, and administration activities.

The ideal candidate would be capable of teaching a variety of foundational courses in agricultural and consumer economics. Examples include commodity marketing, futures and options, negotiation and sales, food and agribusiness management, microeconomics, and other agricultural economics courses as assigned. Competitive applicants will demonstrate a promise of excellence in classroom instruction and show the ability to participate in and contribute to the growth of ACE students.

Responsibilities:

The person filling this position will be expected to contribute to the Department's academic programs through teaching, typically six courses per year, and providing academic leadership (service), broadly defined and commensurate with rank.

ACE, the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES), and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) offer a rich environment for collaborative teaching and outreach, as well as a commitment to achieving excellence. Teaching faculty are voting members of the ACE faculty and have the opportunity to participate in activities related to shared governance. There are also opportunities to connect with external stakeholders in the state of Illinois. Collaborations with individuals and firms in the industries that hire ACE graduates are particularly encouraged.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a doctorate, preferably a PhD in agricultural and/or applied economics, economics, agribusiness, or a related field, by the start date. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of industry work experience in agribusiness, agricultural and/or applied economics, or a related field, or a demonstrated record of higher education instruction in these fields. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate a promise of excellence in classroom instruction, student mentoring, and experiential learning. Experience in industry, sales, commodity marketing, agribusiness management, and/or Extension is highly valued, as is teaching experience in food and agribusiness management, commodity markets, agricultural finance and related topics.

Salary and Appointment:

Competitive, based on qualifications and experience, with a starting salary in the $85,000-$118,000 range. The appointment is expected to be 90% teaching (six courses per year) and 10% academic leadership (service). This position is a full-time, 100% nine-month non-tenure track faculty appointment (9-month service basis paid over 12 months), with the possibility of a summer appointment. This position is eligible for all sponsorship options.

The anticipated starting date for the position is August 16, 2026.
