Technical Specialist - Ophthalmology (Part Time, Fixed Term)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Specialist within the Academic Ophthalmology in the School of Medicine’s Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Nottingham. The role holder should provide specialist technical expertise in histology and aseptic techniques to enable the delivery of excellent research.
The candidate will work alongside a team of clinical ophthalmologists and research fellows to support several research projects on human corneas. Expertise is required in aseptic technique for isolation, maintenance and propagation of primary cell lines; histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, histology, fluorescence labelling and scanning/transmission electron microscopy. The role holder will assist researchers including clinicians and senior research fellows in Academic Ophthalmology to obtain high quality data for publication. Responsibilities also include general day-to-day laboratory duties, supporting the administration, maintenance, operation and training on the equipment in the facility. The candidate will be required to work independently, be pro-active, show initiative to manage processes and projects and react to changing priorities and work circumstances. You will have responsibility for technical oversight of the Academic Ophthalmology laboratories and will be expected to liaise with senior staff and external companies, providing training and development for technicians, postgraduate research students/fellows and visiting academics.
