Job Summary
The Technical Writer will contribute to original research projects of the Research Institute by managing all communication related to the creation and dissemination of research results. The incumbent will collaborate with the Executive Director and all team members to write and edit products including insights notes, research reports, and academic papers. The Technical Writer will also participate in the collection, transcription, and analysis of qualitative data research from interviews and focus groups, as well as survey design for quantitative methodologists. The incumbent will conduct background research such literature reviews for current and future projects. The Technical Writer will lead the publication of a weekly 'infographic' and a monthly insight note, as well as managing the social media campaigns and web strategy to disseminate research, which could include publications, podcasts, and webinars. The Technical Writer will work with the Dallas College marketing unit, utilizing skills in website and graphic design, and editing data visualizations in products such as Tableau, Power B.I., Canva and StoryMaps.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in technical writing for research publication in higher education environment.
- Experience in survey design and other quantitative instrument construction and collection techniques and analysis.
- Knowledge of best practices in data presentation and visualization, including graphic design of infographics and data storytelling.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power B.I., Canva, StoryMaps, MS Publisher or Adobe InNote.
- Experience in designing, writing, and editing research reports for a variety of purposes and stakeholder audience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders through multiple channels and strong data literacy skills.
- Experience managing social media campaigns and web strategy for dissemination of research results in multiple formats.

Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in technical writing, editing and graphic design in a higher education research environment.
- Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred).
- Official transcripts required.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Canva, StoryMaps, Adobe suite, or MS Publisher. Experience with Tableau or Power BI a plus.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred

Key Responsibilities
- Manage all communication for The Research Institute related to the dissemination of research results.
- Design the publication of a weekly infographic, monthly Insight Note, quarterly research reports, and the writing/preparation of academic papers submitted for journal publication.
- Contribute to the construction and administration of surveys and other quantitative instruments that meet requirements for validity and reliability.
- Write qualitative research protocols by supporting transcription and analysis of interviews and focus groups.
- Conducts background research - literature reviews, exploratory data analysis, subject expert interviews, e.g. - to inform the design of original research.
- Write, edit, and author reports from research findings to be disseminated to internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of driving action and informing policy.
- Manage social media campaigns and overall web strategy to disseminate publications in multiple formats (publications, podcasts, webinars).
- Staffing of the Research Institute is in the form of a virtual team, with occasional/quarterly on-site workdays for team planning, directed by the Executive Director and based on the needs of the team members, The Research Institute, and Dallas College.
- Complete required Dallas College professional development training per academic year.
- Performs other job duties as required.
