Temporary Research Assistant
Position Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine Department within New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, helps the principal investigator perform research activities. Performs common lab techniques and procedures as well as work on specific studies.
Key Duties
- Helps with ongoing lab activities and performs assays including western blotting, cell culture, DNA electroporation into animal and bacterial cells, plasmid preparations, immunohistochemistry, calcium uptake assays etc.
- Prepares reagents, solutions/buffers, gels, etc.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- PCR genotyping.
Minimum Education and Experience
Prefer science majors.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of research instruments. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
Must be available to work flexible hours on short notice, including overtime and some weekends and holidays. Must be willing to work with radioactive materials.
Salary
A minimum of $15.49 per hour.
