Temporary Summer Camp Continuing Education Assistant (CEA)
Job Summary
Rhode Island School of Design's (RISD) Continuing Education (CE) department seeks a temporary assistant to support summer camp programming for 6-12 year old children at RISD's Tillinghast Place in Barrington, RI. This individual will supervise campers throughout their daily activities and work closely with instructors to deliver the program's art curriculum. They will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all campers.

Term: June 29, 2026 - August 7, 2026
Location: Tillinghast Place (Barrington, RI)
Essential Functions:
- Supervise campers at all times
- Lead your group of campers through all transitions in the daily schedule
- Lead engaging recreational activities when outside of the studio: during morning drop-off, lunch, snack and afternoon pick-up periods
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with campers
- Respond to behavioral and first aid incidents and report them to the Summer Camp Manager
- Support in classroom experience by assisting instructors, helping facilitate activities, and monitoring student progress and needs
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines and emergency procedures, including knowing the whereabouts of your campers at all times.
- In the event of an instructor absence; work with fellow camp staff to lead art activities
- Please note that this role may include physically moving items and/or frequently walking around different parts of the camp grounds based on daily needs and program requests.
- Check-in with instructor each day to review the day's planned activities
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Prior experience working with children ages 6-12.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Creativity, flexibility, and personal warmth are essential.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of art/design experience in an educational setting.
- Ability to manage students in both indoor and outdoor settings while navigating various unknown scenarios including weather, behavior, and emergencies.
- Strong communication skills
Work Schedule: June 29, 2026 - August 7, 2026. 35 hours/week; 8:30am-4:00pm Monday - Friday
Employment Status: Full-time; Non-exempt; Temporary
