Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

Job Description Summary

The College of Education at Eastern Oregon University seeks a tenure-line faculty member with expertise in literacy education, the Science of Reading, and general education pedagogy to serve across multiple licensure and graduate programs. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy, assessment, and core education foundations; supervise clinical field experiences; mentor and advise teacher candidates; and contribute to program development, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts. This position requires active engagement in scholarship and service that supports educator preparation and strengthens partnerships with regional schools. The faculty member will play a vital role in meeting TSPC and AAQEP standards, ensuring high-quality and evidence-based instruction, and advancing EOU’s mission to prepare equity-minded educators who can meet the diverse learning needs of students across Oregon.

Key Competencies

  • Expertise in Literacy Education and the Science of Reading: Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction, reading assessment, and literacy development across P-12 contexts.
  • Generalist Pedagogical Knowledge: Strong grounding in core education foundations such as curriculum development, instructional planning, learning theory, assessment, and child/adolescent development.
  • Effective Teaching Across Modalities: Ability to design and deliver high-quality instruction in face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments, using inclusive and culturally sustaining pedagogical strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience using evidence-based instructional and advising practices that effectively support student learning and success across varied backgrounds and educational needs.
  • Clinical Supervision and Mentorship: Skill in supporting teacher candidates during clinical field placements and student teaching, with the ability to model reflective, evidence-based practice.
  • Program Development and Continuous Improvement: Ability to contribute to program assessment, accreditation activities (AAQEP), and data-informed improvement processes.
  • Collaborative Professional Practice: Capacity to work effectively with colleagues, school district partners, and community stakeholders to strengthen educator preparation pathways.
  • Scholarly Engagement: Evidence of ongoing or emerging research, creative activity, or professional inquiry relevant to literacy education, pedagogy, or educator preparation.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
