Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Theatre/Design & Technical Production
The University of South Alabama Department of Theatre & Dance invites applications for a full-time (nine-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre position with a specialization in Technical Design and Production, beginning August 15, 2026. An earned terminal degree (M.F.A. and/or Ph.D.) in Theatre or a closely related field is required for this tenure-track appointment. M.F.A. applicants near completion of their degree or ABDs currently near the completion of their degree are welcome to apply, but an earned M.F.A. or Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. We seek a dynamic artist-educator with primary expertise in scenic design, lighting design, or a closely related area of technical theatre, someone who is excited to expand her/his skills within a collaborative, growing Theatre and Dance department. Applicants should have experience in scenic or lighting design and/or technical production at the collegiate, secondary, and/or professional levels, evidence of effective teaching or mentorship in theatre, and commitment to equitable and inclusive pedagogical practices that support learners of all backgrounds. Candidates who demonstrate versatility, collaborative spirit, and interest in cross-disciplinary growth are strongly encouraged to apply.
