Position Description

Contributes to the University's and Texas Tech K-12's mission through teaching and service. Provides instruction, appropriate assistance, information and tutoring. Performs instructional and educational work while serving as an online teacher. Provides feedback and grades for lessons, exams and final course grades. Organizes and develops course work, coordinates classes for students, observes and assesses the needs of the students. Maintains communication both formally and informally with students and other educators.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Serve as the primary instructor for online K-12 accelerated instruction courses. This will include assessment of student learning, evaluating student grades and performance, providing regular feedback to students within 2 business days. support according to students' accommodations. 4) Foster student success through monitoring student learning and progress. 5) Utilize interactive and intensive instructional methods and data tracking (i.e. IXL).
  • Communicate with students regularly including using online discussion boards, chat features, synchronous collaboration tools, email communications, and phone chat. Teachers will be required to respond to student questions within 24 hours / 1 business day.
  • Regular communication with full-time/lead teachers and/or principals regarding grade turnaround, student performance, curricular alignment, students of concern, and other instructional issues that need to be discussed.
  • Conduct video conferencing and phone calls to provide instructional support to students, meet with families, and build relationships through discussion-based assessments, live instruction, informal office hours, or other modalities as determined by Texas Tech K-12.
  • Policies and Procedures:
    • Adhere to all Texas Tech K-12 policies and procedures as noted in the Texas Tech K-12 Faculty Handbook.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Texas Tech K-12 superintendent and/or principals.
  • Academic Interventions:
    • Design and deliver evidence-based interventions to support students in need of academic assistance.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to monitor and adjust intervention strategies based on data.
    • Document all interventions and maintain accurate student progress records.
  • Data-Driven Instruction and Analysis:
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data to identify trends and areas of need.
    • Lead campus teams in data review processes and support teachers in using data to inform instruction.
    • Maintain documentation required for House Bill 1416 and ensure compliance with reporting guidelines.
  • Parent & Family Communication:
    • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, intervention plans, and strategies for home support.
    • Participate in parent conferences and meetings to provide insights on student achievement and behavior.
  • Attendance Enforcement:
    • Monitor student attendance patterns and collaborate with administration, counselors, and families to address attendance concerns.
    • Implement and support attendance intervention plans in alignment with district policies.
  • MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Program Development:
    • Assist campus leadership in building and organizing the MTSS framework.
    • Coordinate progress monitoring systems, tiered interventions, and staff training.
    • Serve as a resource for teachers and support staff implementing MTSS strategies.
  • Support for Special Populations:
    • Collaborate with the special populations team, including special education, Section 504, and English learner programs.
    • Serve as a substitute or provide classroom coverage for special populations staff as needed.
    • Assist with intervention documentation and progress monitoring for special population students.
  • Assessment & Compliance:
    • Serve as a test proctor for state and district assessments as assigned.
    • Ensure test security and adherence to all assessment protocols.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, State of Texas Special Education Teacher Certification, and three years teaching experience in a public or private school setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Texas ESL certification with experience working with emergent bilingual students
  • Demonstrates efficient utilization of time and resources
  • Anticipates and responds to the needs of the department
  • Basic knowledge of PEIMS and HB 1416 requirements
  • Experience with asynchronous online instruction
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI programs
  • Three years' experience working with special education students in small groups
