The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for open-rank (assistant, associate, or full professor level) tenure-track, full-time faculty positions. Qualified candidates will be considered at all levels. Applications are encouraged from applicants whose degrees and research programs are in disciplinary areas as well as cross-cutting interdisciplinary areas of electrical and computer engineering. In particular, the department is interested in receiving applications from candidates with expertise in the following areas: RF/mmWave Integrated Circuits and Systems; Integration of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Design; Energy Infrastructure and the Energy/Compute Nexus; Quantum Computing and Systems; and Robotics and Autonomous Systems. Additionally, applicants with expertise that aligns with either of the two campus-wide strategic hiring initiatives in which the ECE Department is participating can indicate that in their applications. These two additional positions are in the following fields: Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Digital Transformation and Leveraging 7T MRI for Brain Health and Precision Medicine. Applicants for all positions must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree, excellent academic credentials, and an outstanding ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Successful candidates will be expected to initiate and carry out independent research and perform academic duties associated with our B.S., M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. programs.
Senior and mid-career faculty are encouraged to apply. Qualified senior candidates will be considered for tenured Associate and Professor positions.

The department has one of the world's top programs, serving about 3,000 students and granting approximately 500 B.S. degrees, 100 M.S. degrees, 80 M.Eng. degrees, and 75 Ph.D. degrees annually. Faculty in the department carry out research in a broad spectrum of areas. They are supported by world-class interdisciplinary research facilities, including the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Nick Holonyak Jr. Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory, the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, as well as several industrial centers and programs that foster international collaborations. ECE also supports and encourages faculty involvement with the nation's first engineering-based Carle Illinois College of Medicine, which facilitates the transition from engineering breakthroughs into translational medical practices.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The typical salary range is as follows: $120,000 to $145,000 at the Assistant Professor level, $135,000 to $155,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $156,000 to $250,000 at the Full Professor level, for a 9-month service basis paid over 12 months. The preferred starting date is August 16, 2026 and is negotiable.
