Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the Director of TRIO Programs, the TRIO Senior Coordinator serves as a subject matter and operational lead for the TRIO SSS (Classic) Coordinator and TRIO SSS (STEM) Coordinator, providing day-to-day guidance, programmatic direction, and workflow coordination under the direction of the Director of TRIO Programs. This role supports training, resource development, and service alignment while formal supervision and evaluation remain with the Director.

This position supports advising, counseling, tracking, and leading small group activities for under-prepared and disadvantaged college students who qualify as SSS participants. A primary focus of this position is to improve the retention of and support the academic program completion of first-generation and/or low-income students who become participants of the RRCC Student Support Services Project. This position requires commitment to support TRIO SSS programming via participation in First Generation Committee, Academic Advising community meetings, outreach such as New Student Orientation, Welcome events, recruitment such as TRIO SSS representation at Student Affairs events, and all RRCC college events as applicable. The Senior Project Coordinator works collaboratively with other Grant programs.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the academic setting, financial aid processes, TRIO Student Support Services regulations, and federal grant requirements.
  • Knowledge of academic advising, student development, retention practices, and services supporting first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented student populations.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, staff training, and development practices.
  • Strong computer and data management skills, including student tracking systems, reporting platforms, and standard office software.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and utilize student data to inform advising, reporting, and program improvement.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations, exercise independent judgment, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to lead staff, coordinate programs and services, and support student engagement and success initiatives.
  • Ability to work on campus, primarily at the Lakewood Campus, with occasional hours at the Arvada Campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years of relevant professional experience supporting student services, academic programs, TRIO programs, or related higher education initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, historically marginalized populations such as people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, and people with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience advising or counseling students within higher education or student support programs.
  • Experience with TRIO programs or similar federally funded student support initiatives through professional employment and/or prior participation as a TRIO student or participant in a similar program, with familiarity in program services, student engagement, and support resources.
  • Experience working with compliance standards, policies, and procedural requirements, preferably within federally funded or regulated programs.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting, facilitating workshops, or delivering programming in group settings.
  • Experience managing, tracking, and interpreting student data to inform services, reporting, and program improvement.

Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $59,524 - $65,476 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
