The actuarial program at The University of Iowa is the second oldest in the U.S.A. The Society of Actuaries has designated it as a Center of Actuarial Excellence and granted it University-Earned Credit status for four examinations (FM, FAM, SRM, and ALTAM). In fall of 2024, the program had 114 B.S. majors and 11 graduate students. The Goebel Professor is expected to be the leader of the program, overseeing its teaching and research missions and fostering strong industrial-academic connections with the insurance industry in the State of Iowa and elsewhere.

Applicants must be a full professor or an associate professor, who is ready for promotion to full professor, in actuarial science, with a Ph.D. in actuarial science or a relevant field. Applicants with equivalent academic qualifications such as senior industrial positions, e.g., Chief Actuary, are welcome to apply. Fellowship or Associateship of the Society of Actuaries, or equivalent, is required. Candidates must be free to assume the duties of this position and be legally able to work in the United States on August 19, 2026. Excellent communication skills are essential.

Research and publications in actuarial science are required. Expertise in areas at the intersection of actuarial science and one or more of the following areas - data science, finance, insurance, risk management, or statistics - is particularly desirable. Industrial experience, as well as interest in collaborative and cross-disciplinary research, are beneficial and so is administrative experience. Successful applicants will show distinguished records in scholarly research and excellence in teaching.

How to Apply:

Candidates should submit applications online at https://jobs.uiowa.edu/. Applications should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, names and contact information of references, statement on research, statement on teaching, statement on leading the University of Iowa actuarial program, and a set of selected notable publications in PDF format.

To ensure consideration, all application materials must be received by October 24, 2025. However, screening of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Three letters of reference should be sent directly to the search committee by the letter writers via email acts-searchcommittee@team.uiowa.edu. Hard copy letters may be mailed to the following address, if necessary.
