Position: Tutor III
Department: Academic Affairs
Type of Position: Part-time Temporary
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule, Hours per week: Evenings and Weekends, up to 12 hours per week
Opportunity for hybrid schedule: No
Starting Salary Range: $20.47-$26.35 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
Position Summary: Tutor students through a variety of modalities and methods in specific subjects higher-level courses and content, incorporating executive functioning skills; refer students to other relevant resources. Assist with creation and implementation of center-specific projects and training as appropriate; work with various campus partners to create learning opportunities for students; assist in other daily activities in the relevant center.
Required Qualifications:
- Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
- Conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.
- Requires a Masters degree or Bachelors with appropriate field experience (as determined by the position),
- 3 years of teaching/tutoring experience.
- Degree in Education, Special Education, or a similar field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Reading Specialist Experience
Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, semester-long tutoring, embedded, group tutoring and/or lab demonstrations (online and/or in-person) in higher-level courses and complex content-areas, using techniques such as course-specific learning strategies and processing techniques deemed appropriate by the relevant supervisor; build rapport and supportive relationships with students.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of center-specific projects, including developing and maintaining physical and electronic center resources (i.e., textbooks, anatomical models, microscopes, calculators, and online guides), and developing online guides and learning materials (ex: LMS learning modules), delivering content-specific workshops, and meeting with students through the Academic Integrity Remediation process.
- Work with faculty, staff, and other campus entities to create learning opportunities for students, including developing and delivering content-specific workshops for in-class and in the center delivery (ex: Smart Starts, topic review sessions) Refer students to appropriate resources within the larger Academic Resource Center and across campus based on expressed student needs. -
- Assist center director and ARC staff with campus outreach events (ex: Math Awareness Week, Science Week, Hare & Bell Writing Contest, Welcome Week, resource fairs), including in-class visits and workshops.
- Assist in the hiring and training of new tutors as necessary and serve as a mentor to other center staff, modeling tutor expectations and reinforcing best practices.
- Participate in mandatory center and campus training, including pedagogical training maintaining content expertise, and other campus-wide training opportunities as appropriate; maintain an awareness of the current local and national higher education climate and content-specific concerns
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and keeping appropriate staff updated on student progress and problems.
