Variable Hours Officer
Position Summary
The Department of Neurology is seeking a Variable Hours Officer to support research in computational biomedical signal processing with a focus on epilepsy and tumor-associated epilepsy models. The incumbent will assist with the acquisition, processing, and quantitative analysis of EEG and related neurophysiological data from both animal models and human subjects. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research aimed at understanding the mechanisms of epilepsy through advanced computational and statistical approaches.
Responsibilities
- Conduct epilepsy research involving acquisition and quantitative analysis of EEG signals recorded from both animal models and human subjects using specialized research electrodes and acquisition equipment.
- Perform spike detection and sorting from noisy signals.
- Apply point process and continuous statistical methods for EEG data analysis.
- Synthesize and integrate multiple data streams, including GCaMP imaging data.
- Analyze and interpret EEG data, identifying both normal and abnormal (epileptiform) activity patterns.
- Prepare scientific figures, data visualizations, and manuscripts for publication.
- Collaborate with research team members to ensure accurate data collection, analysis, and documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience; minimum of 5 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in neuroscience or similar field, and minimum of 5 years post-doctoral research experience in the epilepsy field.
- Direct experience includes publications relevant to identifying and classifying single unit activity from extracellular recordings during epileptiform activity and seizures.
- Expertise in mathematical software including MATLAB and Python, and in imaging software such as Canvas.
- Prior experience in mentoring graduate and medical student.
- The ideal candidate will also have good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, should be highly motivated and capable of working both independently and with a team. Flexibility with work hours to accommodate team schedules is also a plus.
