The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Division of Ethics at Columbia University is seeking a Variable Hours Officer to support a new qualitative research project, The Future of Bioethics, led by Professor Sandra Soo-Jin Lee and funded by the Greenwall Foundation. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge work on the changing landscape and institutional futures of bioethics, while gaining hands-on experience in all phases of an empirical research study.
The Variable Hours Officer will work approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day study activities, including scheduling meetings, maintaining timelines, and supporting IRB submissions and renewals.
- Conduct literature and document reviews relevant to the study.
- Manage survey and interview workflows, including recruitment, data collection, and data management.
- Support qualitative data analysis under the direction of the PI and project team.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in qualitative research methods (e.g., coursework or prior research experience).
- Experience working as part of a research or project team.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated interest in bioethics and related fields (e.g., medical humanities, STS, sociology, anthropology, public health).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
