Vascular Neurologist, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Neurology, Vascular
Academic Vascular Neurologist: The Department of Neurology at the Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine is recruiting a Vascular Neurologist to join our team. The Stony Brook Comprehensive Stroke Center has distinguished itself as an innovator in the clinical neurosciences and is a premier site on Long Island for providing care for patients with a wide range of cerebrovascular conditions. The program has exhibited consistent growth, reflecting a commitment and strong collaborative relationship between the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiology. The Comprehensive Stroke Center received Joint Commission recertification in the Spring of 2021. It is also host to Suffolk County’s only mobile stroke unit program, initially launched in April 2019. Ongoing initiatives include the implementation of outpatient TIA clinics to increase access to acute outpatient care and reduce stroke rates in our community.
The duties for this position include:
- Providing inpatient and consultative care to patients with a range of cerebrovascular conditions.
- Evaluating cerebrovascular patients in the outpatient setting.
- Providing acute tele-stroke evaluations through the mobile stroke unit program and with our partner hospitals and free standing emergency rooms.
- Participating in the training and teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Participating in clinical research activities and collaborating on research projects as desired.
The Department of Neurology plays a vital role in the training of the next generation of neurologists with both Adult and Child neurology residency programs and fellowships in Cerebrovascular, Epilepsy, Neurophysiology, and Neuroimmunology. There are also ample opportunities to lead or participate in translational, clinical, and quality improvement research projects. We are also proud to be part of the Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute, a collaborative effort between the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, and Neurobiology. The NI is home to a number of specialty centers and cross-disciplinary clinical programs. In 2020-2021 US News and World Report ranked Stony Brook University Hospital #41 nationally (top 4%) for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Opened in 2019, Stony Brook University Hospital expanded its neuroscience service line, opening a 20-bed Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) and the associated ICR step-down beds to serve patients with acute stroke and associated acute neuro medical conditions.
Stony Brook received a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification in 2018, the first and only hospital in Suffolk County with this honor, and Level 4 NAEC Epilepsy Center designation in 2017.
