Role Summary:

The Visiting Assistant Professor in Mental Health Counseling (MHC) will work collaboratively with the MHC Program Director, as well as with other faculty and staff members in the Lynch School, to support the teaching and advising of students in the M.A. Mental Health Counseling program. This will be a full-time, non-tenure track 9-month position for a three-year period, beginning the fall 2026 semester.

Reporting Relationship:

The Visiting Assistant Professor in Mental Health Counseling (MHC) will work with the MHC Program Director and report to the CDEP Department Chair and the Associate Dean of Faculty and Academics.

Scope of Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 courses per year in the MHC Program. Courses taught will include required courses for example, Career Development, Group Counseling, Theories of Counseling and Personality, Psychological Testing, Psychopathology) and may include elective courses that are high in demand (for example, Play Therapy, Counseling for Addictions, Counseling Families, Psychology of Adult Trauma etc).

Advising Responsibilities

  • Serve as a faculty advisor for MHC students guiding them in planning a program of study and meeting the academic and professional competency standards required for degree completion.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience Qualifications

The Visiting Assistant Professor in Mental Health Counseling (MHC) should have a PhD in Counseling or a related field. They should have at least two years of experience teaching courses typically required in a Master's of Mental Health Counseling program and have extensive clinical experience. A license to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is preferred.
