Position Summary:

The Department of Physics at Rollins College invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor in Physics beginning August 2026. Preference will be given to applicants with an understanding of liberal arts education that includes a student-centered undergraduate experience. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who are committed to mentoring and educating a broad range of students, particularly those who are traditionally underrepresented in physics and astronomy.

A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required. Undergraduate teaching experience or clear promise of excellence in teaching is desirable. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Courses will include Introductory Physics I and II (with lab), a topics course in the candidate's subfield for physics majors, a cross-disciplinary elective that supports the Science Division (for example Materials Science, Medical Physics, Geophysics / Seismology, Robotics, or environmental physics), and general-education or lower-level physics courses. All lecture and laboratory sections are taught by the faculty. Candidates should be committed to creative, inclusive teaching across levels, strong communication, and the liberal-arts mission.

Rollins College is a comprehensive liberal arts college located just north of Orlando, FL, a diverse metropolitan community with a thriving economic and cultural scene. Nearby Orlando International Airport provides easy access to U.S. and international destinations. The college emphasizes innovative and quality teaching in small classes and ranks number one among 121 Southern master's-level universities in the annual rankings of “America's Best Colleges,” released by U.S. News & World Report.
