Job Description
The School of Media Arts and Studies (MDIA) at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time visiting professional to coordinate the OHIO-in-LA Program, teach courses related to the media and entertainment industries, and serve as the School Internship Coordinator. This position is part of a strategic initiative to advance Ohio University's Dynamic Strategy, particularly its commitment to experiential learning and alumni engagement.
We seek an accomplished media educator who brings a passion for facilitating real-world experiences that produce meaningful impacts, a strong commitment to hands-on, dynamic teaching, and a proven record of research and/or creative activity.
Ohio University, the Scripps College of Communication, and the School of Media Arts and Studies are deeply committed to providing students with meaningful, broadly defined experiential learning opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a shared commitment to this educational approach and will receive institutional support in leading a high-impact learning experience in Los Angeles as part of their faculty role. This is a 9-month faculty position that requires the additional on-site summer management of the OHIO-in-LA program.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS
- Serve as Director of the OHIO-in-LA Program during each Fall semester and Summer term. Duties will include budgeting, marketing, selection/preparation of participants, teaching of classes and overseeing of internships in Los Angeles, and facilitating relationships with alumni and entertainment industry professionals in Los Angeles.
- Teach courses related to the media and the entertainment industries each Spring semester at the Athens campus.
- Serve as Internship Coordinator for the School of Media Arts and Studies.
- Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the continued excellence and innovation of the school's sequences.
- Collaborate with faculty, industry partners, and community organizations to create high-impact learning experiences that align with the school's commitment to hands-on education.
- Engage with alumni, industry mentors, and prospective employers to strengthen the school's professional network.
This is not a remote position. Along with teaching, mentoring, and advising graduate and undergraduate students, the successful candidate is expected to bring a collaborative spirit to the school's other majors. All school faculty are expected to provide service to the school, to the Scripps College of Communication, and to Ohio University, as well as maintain a strong level of their own creative/professional activities in their respective field.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, a master's degree in the field of media, entertainment, communication, or a related field, and at least 10 years of relevant experience as a working media professional. For applicants with extensive industry experience and background, a bachelor's degree may be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
A terminal degree (PhD or MFA or equivalent) in media, entertainment, communication or a related field. A professional track record in the media and entertainment industries along with national or international publications and/or screenings at national or international film/TV festivals/competition. College-level teaching experience and demonstrated ability to mentor students at various stages of development. Experience with budget oversight, program coordination, and alumni engagement.
