Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program, currently housed in the School of Social Work (SSW) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for 12-month, non-tenure track Clinical Associate Professor positions beginning August 2026.

The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is currently in development. The program plans to seek Accreditation-Provisional status from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) prior to enrolling students. The program will not matriculate students until Accreditation-Provisional status has been granted by ARC-PA.

The Principal Faculty (PA-C) member will serve as a full-time faculty member in the developing MPAS program and will play a key role in preparing the program for Provisional Accreditation through the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Responsibilities include graduate-level instruction in the didactic and/or clinical phases of the curriculum; course development and coordination; student assessment and remediation; and academic advising and mentoring. Teaching responsibilities may include classroom instruction, laboratory and clinical skills training, simulation, and oversight of supervised clinical learning activities.

Additional responsibilities include participation in curriculum design, program assessment, admissions, and continuous quality improvement processes necessary for accreditation compliance. Faculty are expected to engage in service to the program, school, college, and profession, and to maintain clinical and scholarly engagement consistent with a clinical faculty appointment. Active collaboration with the Program Director, Medical Director, Clinical Coordinator, and principal faculty in support of program development and accreditation readiness is required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent PA master's degree) from a program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) at time of application.
  • A minimum of three years of clinical practice experience as a PA is required.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Earned doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DMSc, DSc, or related discipline) from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Prior experience as principal faculty in an ARC-PA accredited PA program, including participation in accreditation activities such as self-study preparation, site visit readiness, outcomes assessment, or continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in PA curriculum development, course design, student assessment, and academic advising. Experience with clinical education coordination, clinical site development, and preceptor engagement is desirable.
  • Evidence of scholarship, professional leadership, or service within PA education or related healthcare disciplines is also preferred.
  • Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings.

Required Certifications or Licensure:

  • Current NCCPA certification or emeritus status
  • Licensure or eligible for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in North Carolina
